Mahar Ganar Yone, Amarapura

Date and time of the recording: 4th September 2019, 10.30 am

Mahar Ganar Yone monastery, in Amarapura, is one of the most visited historical and religious sites in Mandalay area. The rush hour for visiting it is 11 am, when a long procession of about thousand monks diligently queues for having lunch in a very big courtyard/dining hall, equipped with tables and huge marmites of rice. From the description, you could think it’s a meditative and contemplative moment, but in fact our recording witnesses the development of this ritual, regulated by the tolls of a bell, in the middle of an immense crowd of tourists, arranged behind barriers in order to ease the passage of the monks.

Ne abbiamo parlato nel nostro Podcast Ermete, puntata numero 7, che puoi ascoltare here.
